The North Face Apps Now Feature Live Tiles with At-a-Glance Trail and Ski-Conditions.
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. Press Release, Feb. 22 — The North Face, the world’s premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, has updated its Trailhead and Snow Report apps with the launch on Windows Phone. In addition to offering a constant stream of weather, trail and route information, both free applications now also feature Windows Phone live tiles that provide instant updates about trails, and conditions at ski resorts on phone start screens without the need to open the apps.
The North Face Trailhead app for Windows Phone, powered by EveryTrail.com, is a one-stop resource for people who want to find trails, hikes and bike routes based on search or their current location. Now Trailhead now lets people pin their favorite trails to their Start screen as live tiles that flip to show the trail name, trip length and proximity to your location. With one touch of the pinned trail tile, users can access a menu that allows them to map the route, get directions to the site from their current location and more. The North Face Trailhead also tracks distance, speed and elevation in real-time and allows people to post their trip to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
The North Face Snow Report app for Windows Phone has everything people need for their next skiing/snowboarding trip, including the ability to track daily runs, post updates and photos to Facebook, get snow conditions and weather forecasts, and access full trail maps and other details for numerous popular resort destinations. Now Snow Report lets people pin their favorite mountain resorts to the Start screen as live tiles that flip to show the resort name, snow fall, and current weather conditions. Pinned ‘favorite’ resorts will also display 24, 48 or 72 hour alerts when snow makes its way into the forecast.
In addition to featuring Windows Phone’s exclusive Live Tiles, both the The North Face Trailhead and The North Face Snow Report apps take advantage of Multitasking, and Microsoft's Marketplace App Connect that allows Bing search to recommend relevant applications.
“The North Face has a proud tradition of leading the outdoor industry in innovation and inspiration to get outdoors,” said Aaron Carpenter, vice president of marketing for The North Face. “We are excited to offer a free resource to skiers, snowboarders, hikers, runners and mountain bikers to easily get information they need when hitting the trails.”
“The North Face Trailhead and Snow Report are great examples of the kind of rich applications that that take advantage of the Windows Phone unique features and design,” said Todd Brix, senior director, Windows Phone Marketplace, Microsoft Corp.” “Only Windows Phone has Live Tiles that provide instant updates about whatever is important to people from their start screen – from hiking trails, snow conditions, sport scores or social updates from the people in your life. Both apps leverage our unique functionality and multitasking to provide a great user experience.”
